Monster High Makes the Grade
73Has Mattel Done It Again?
It’s time to crack the books or in this case your wallet if you want to send your kids to Monster High. The new hot toy phenomenon by Mattel was just released in July and with the online activities and games that are part of the newly launched Monster High website, it looks like Mattel will be able to reach a larger target audience and cover a larger demographic of the toy seeking market. This product line by Mattel is very timely considering how popular wizards, vampires and wolfmen have been in the movies, on television and in books. Imagination has found a place back into mainstream entertainment. Who can say why certain trends in these areas happen. Personally, I think that the fantasy of the impossible has an allure that lets all ages mentally go somewhere else, be someone else and use their mind for something creative and fun.
Meet the Class
What is Monster High?
It’s always a good idea for parents to get involved in what types of toys and activities their children want before they purchase them. In this case there is a lot of information available about the new Monster High line from Mattel. Many videos are available on YouTube, blogs and product reviews are available on search so parents have the opportunity to see what the Monsters High line is all about and the official website has been launched. If your kids are asking for Monster High dolls or accessories for birthdays or Christmas, this would be a good time to start looking and buying.
Mattel’s Official Monster High website has free online games, activities and videos that involve the students of Monster High. Some of the activities are able to be printed off. As your child plays the games they will get codes to unlock other activities on the site. There is even an activity where your child can upload a picture and make a Monster High School identification card. The videos offered for Monster High are not scary but fun and entertaining. Some of the humor is silly, play on word type comments like ‘drop dead gorgeous’ or ‘frightfully handsome.’
Who attends Monster High? The kids of famous monsters, of course. The student’s are named after their monster parents; Lagoona Blue, Clawdeen Wolf, Frankie Stein, Draculaura, Deuce Gorgon and Cleo de Nile. The dolls themselves have been designed to appeal to two age groups. There are pets and accessories for the students; as well as Monster High tattoos, hot wheels, locker decorations, and more. The iCoffin has a slide out keypad to play games and more. Items prices vary depend on the items so gifts for birthdays and Christmas don’t have to break the bank.
The plush dolls are designed to appeal to the younger children and are about 9” tall. The Monster High plush dolls that are available have the same name as their big sisters and come with a pet. They sort of put you in mind of a doll Wednesday Addams from ‘The Addams Family’ might have had. One of the accessories that is sure to appeal to a young girl is the pink diary.
The dolls that are designed for girls ages 8-12 are plastic and dressed in more mature and fashionable clothes. The doll comes with a pet, an accessory, a diary, a brush and a doll stand. Right now there is only one male student at Monster High but as the product line develops, there are sure to be more students and more fun.
The product line seems to be well thought out with a variety of items in different price ranges to appeal to a larger demographic of children. It will be up to the children to make the final decision as to whether Monster High items are going to be one of the hot toys for 2010.
